Zoho Corporation, the parent company renowned for its leading technology brands such as ManageEngine, Zoho.com, TrainerCentral, and Qntrl, unveiled a new venture in India on Tuesday. The latest addition to their lineup is Zakya, a cloud-based POS (Point of Sale) solution designed specifically for small and medium-sized retailers. With Zakya, retailers can swiftly transition to live operations and begin billing within the span of an hour. This innovative solution aims to simplify the daily operations of retail stores, offering centralized monitoring and management from a single platform.

The newly introduced brand “Zakya” draws its name from the Sanskrit term “sakya,” translating to “possible.” Developed entirely in India, Zakya presents businesses with a comprehensive, modern POS (Point of Sale) setup that encompasses a POS billing application. In a recent announcement, it was revealed that Zakya supports 10 Indian languages, including Tamil and Hindi, catering to diverse linguistic preferences.

Businesses adopting Zakya gain the ability to launch customized mobile applications, empowering customers to browse and make purchases directly from their smartphones with home delivery options. Additionally, stores can offer the convenience of in-store pickup, enhancing the overall shopping experience.

Through Zakya’s web application, businesses can seamlessly manage all back-office operations from a single platform. This includes tasks such as inventory management, customer information, transaction records, and vendor details, eliminating the need to navigate between multiple applications or records, as stated in the release.

The Indian retail sector is anticipated to reach a substantial ~$2 trillion mark by 2032. To better understand the needs of retail establishments across India, Zakya conducted a survey involving over 1000 respondents. The findings revealed that a significant 95 per cent of respondents currently managing manual billing expressed a desire to transition to a modern POS solution by 2029.

Zakya’s services are immediately available for use, with the standard plan starting at ₹649 per month, billed annually. Furthermore, interested businesses can explore the offering through a 15-day free trial, as mentioned in the release.

Highlighting a significant gap in the retail sector, Theranikal noted that many businesses using POS systems still rely on outdated software, presenting technological constraints that hinder scalability. This hesitance to transition to newer software is often due to a lack of guidance and technical expertise. Zakya, as Theranikal emphasized, aims to bridge this gap by offering a user-friendly and comprehensive solution.

Zoho Corporation has announced that Zakya will serve as a valuable asset for retail businesses, assisting with various aspects including billing, accounting, ecommerce, mobile billing, mobile store management, and back-office tasks. In addition to English, Zakya supports 10 Indian languages, catering to a diverse clientele across the country.

Furthermore, Zakya comes equipped with pre-integrated payment partners such as Pine Labs, Razorpay, and PhonePe, ensuring convenience for both customers and store owners alike. The platform also offers integration with shipment solutions like AfterShip and EasyPost, facilitating efficient order fulfilment processes, as highlighted by the company. Users will also have the flexibility to integrate Zakya with third-party applications, further enhancing operational efficiency.

Priced at INR 649 per month, Zakya has garnered significant traction since its beta launch six months ago. Zoho reported that Zakya has already onboarded over 170 active stores and boasts 320 active POS registers, indicating a strong market response to the product’s offerings.

In a notable development, Zoho’s cofounder and CEO, Sridhar Vembu, shared insights into the company’s growth trajectory in India. In the calendar year 2022, Zoho witnessed a remarkable 37% year-on-year increase in revenue from the Indian market. Vembu highlighted India as the fastest-growing market for the SaaS giant.

Adding to its achievements, Zoho recently crossed the significant milestone of $1 billion in overall sales for the financial year ending on March 31, 2023. The bootstrapped unicorn reported an operating revenue of INR 8,703.6 Crores ($1 billion), marking a notable 30% surge from INR 6,710.7 Crores in the previous financial year. Additionally, its net profit increased by 3%, reaching INR 2,836 Crores from INR 2,749 Crores in the preceding fiscal year. These impressive figures underscore Zoho’s continued success and growth within the industry.
