Ahead of their IPL 2024 clash against the Delhi Capitals, Suryakumar Yadav rejoined the Mumbai Indians squad. The dynamic batsman was anticipated to be a pivotal player for MI, who are struggling after three consecutive losses this season. However, Yadav’s highly anticipated return didn’t unfold as expected, as he was dismissed for a duck on just his second ball.
Mumbai Indians supporters, eagerly anticipating Suryakumar Yadav’s explosive performance at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, were left stunned when Delhi Capitals’ bowler Anrich Nortje dismissed the dynamic batsman for a duck on Sunday. The atmosphere at the Wankhede Stadium turned somber as Suryakumar Yadav walked back to the pavilion.
Following his dismissal, Suryakumar Yadav became a trending topic on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), with terms like “Duck” accompanying his name as disappointed fans shared their frustrations. Many fans swiftly linked this event to Hardik Pandya’s captaincy, suggesting that Yadav might not be content playing under the new leadership at Mumbai Indians.
While some supporters expressed disappointment with Suryakumar Yadav’s performance, others showed understanding, noting that the batsman was returning to cricket after a four-month hiatus. Coming in for Naman Dhir on Sunday, Yadav was anticipated to serve as an anchor for the Mumbai Indians’ innings against Delhi Capitals.
Captain Hardik Pandya confirmed Suryakumar’s return to the team, replacing Naman Dhir, and also announced the inclusion of Mohammad Nabi and Romario Shepherd for the match.
“We’re making three changes – Surya is back, he takes Naman’s place. Romario comes in for Mapakha, and Nabi replaces Brevis,” stated Hardik Pandya.
Suryakumar has a commendable track record against DC in the IPL. Across 18 matches against Delhi, the Indian batsman has accumulated 352 runs, including three half-centuries.
