Nvidia and AMD Price Cut Battle, Great GPUs Discontinued

The dawn of 2024 ushered in an exciting wave of innovation in the realm of graphics cards, marked by the release of four new offerings. Nvidia unveiled the GeForce RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4070 Ti Super, and RTX 4070 Super, while AMD introduced the Radeon RX 7600 XT. These latest additions represent a strategic move towards mid-cycle refreshes, aimed at refining existing silicon and optimizing configuration and pricing to align with the evolving dynamics of the graphics card market.

Upon delving into our reviews, it becomes apparent that the latest graphics card releases failed to make a significant impact, with the RTX 4070 Super emerging as the standout performer in terms of both performance and value. These offerings, in essence, embody what enthusiasts expected from the inception of the GeForce RTX 40 and Radeon RX 7000 series.

Among the new GPUs, the RTX 4080 Super has garnered the most attention, albeit constrained by limited supply compared to its counterparts. Nevertheless, consumers have expressed satisfaction with its revised price point of $1,000, signaling a $200 reduction from Nvidia’s earlier, pricier iterations.

As we navigate the current landscape of GPU availability and pricing, it’s becoming increasingly evident that certain models, such as the Radeon RX 6800 XT and RX 6800, are becoming scarce. Although pricing has yet to experience the typical uptick seen before the end of a product’s lifecycle, availability is dwindling. With only a single Radeon RX 6800 available from XFX via Newegg, and a limited selection of 6800 XT models, it’s clear that these cards may soon become relics of the past.

While the RX 6800 XT models priced at $500 may not offer compelling value compared to the superior 7800 XT at the same price point, the RX 6800 remains a viable option at $400. Its performance, on par with the 7700 XT, coupled with an additional 4GB of VRAM for $30 less, positions it as an attractive choice for discerning buyers.

Another casualty of the current market dynamics is the Radeon RX 6700 XT, which has become increasingly difficult to find. This model, favored by those seeking a GPU around the $300 mark, has been a staple choice for months. Although the 6750 XT remains available, its price point of $360 makes it less compelling. With alternatives such as the slower 7600 XT with 16GB of VRAM priced at $330 or the underwhelming 4060 Ti 8GB at $375, consumers are faced with limited options once the RX 6700 XT is no longer accessible.

The absence of a suitable replacement for the 6700 XT in the latest generation of GPUs has left many buyers frustrated. With $300 to $400 being a common budget range for GPU purchases, the lack of compelling alternatives underscores the challenges present in the current market landscape. As we navigate these uncertainties, it’s clear that the quest for the ideal GPU continues amidst evolving consumer preferences and market dynamics.
