Elon Musk's X takes another step to compete with LinkedIn, adds new job search feature

Elon Musk has long envisioned transforming X into an “everything app,” and the platform has undergone significant changes since his acquisition in 2022. Previously known as Twitter, where users were restricted to sharing brief thoughts, X now supports sharing of long-form videos, writing extended tweets, accessing a premium subscription, among other features. Additionally, X is evolving into a job search hub, and according to recent updates, the company has introduced a new feature that moves it closer to competing with LinkedIn.

X Hiring announced that over a million job listings across a variety of sectors have been posted on X, a milestone that Elon Musk highlighted by resharing the announcement on the platform. The announcement detailed that a wide range of industries, including AI, financial services, and SaaS, are successfully recruiting qualified candidates through X Hiring daily.

Beyond evolving into a job search platform, X is continuously exploring new ways to enhance user connectivity. A significant update was the extension of audio and video call capabilities to users without a premium subscription, a feature previously exclusive to premium members.

Enrique Barragan, an engineer at X, revealed this update, marking a significant leap in making the app’s communication features more accessible. Initially, these calling features were introduced for iOS users as a premium service before being made available to a wider audience.

The ability to make calls was extended to Android users earlier in the year but was restricted to premium subscribers until recently. Elon Musk had indicated plans for a wider release by the end of January, emphasizing the company’s dedication to ensuring the feature’s reliability for all users.

Moreover, X has introduced a new customization option for call reception. Users can now modify their settings to receive calls from either the people they follow or from anyone on the platform, providing greater control over their communication preferences.
