With Apple’s next flagship, the iPhone 16 Pro, still months away, rumours are already swirling about possible design changes and a potential camera revamp. The latest renders surrounding the changes suggest the possible introduction of a dedicated “Capture” button and a significant “Action” button, hinting at Apple’s focus on making the iPhone 16 Pro more capable in mobile photography.
The latest CAD renders shared by 91 mobile, reveals that the new iPhone 16 Pro design will include a new button – possibly a capture button positioned below the power button on the right side of the iPhone 16 Pro. This button is speculated to have capacitive touch functionality and more than just a simple shutter release. According to reports, the quick button will allow users to adjust focus and zoom levels, offering greater control over their camera while capturing that perfect moment.
Notably, a dedicated Capture button in iPhone could be a significant addition for mobile photography enthusiasts. Currently, iPhone users rely on on-screen controls to capture photos and videos. Although the lower volume button also allows shutter click, a dedicated capture button with more functionality will offer a more tactile and familiar experience, particularly for users who are accustomed to traditional cameras.
Along with the Capture button, the reports also suggest that Apple might increase the size of the Action button in iPhone 16. The company introduced the Action Button with iPhone 15 Pro. This customisable button allows users to assign various actions, like launching the camera app or activating shortcuts. Reportedly, the larger-sized action button will enhance accessibility and make it easier to use.
In the line of design changes, Apple is also said to be working on a changed camera setup. Instead of the triangular shape seen in the last three generations of iPhones, Apple is said to be working on introducing a vertical camera layout to house bigger lenses, including a “tetraprism” telephoto camera lens capable of superior zoom. This change will further support Apple’s aim to make the iPhone’s camera better then its competitors.
Beyond the physical buttons, the leaked renders suggest a slight increase in the iPhone 16 Pro’s dimensions compared to its predecessor. Rumours hint that the iPhone 16 Pro will measure 149.6—71.4—8.4mm with a 6.1-inch display. Compared to the iPhone 15 Pro’s dimensions (146.6—70.6—8.25mm), the iPhone 16 Pro might be slightly taller, wider, and thicker.
However, it is important to note that all this information is just rumours, and Apple has yet to confirm any design changes for the iPhone 16 Pro. The official unveiling of the iPhone 16 series is likely to happen sometime in September or October 2024 during Fall, following Apple’s traditional release schedule. Until then, these leaks will continue to fuel speculation and excitement around the upcoming flagship device. And everything will be confirmed once the new-gen iPhones are finally unveiled.
