JEE Advanced Ranking And Number of Attempts

Total Attempts Made

  • A candidate may sit for the JEE Advanced test no more than twice in a span of two years. This implies that you can only retake the exam the year after you first take it. A year off between attempts is not permitted.
  • You have one more chance to do better the following year if you don’t receive the desired rank or don’t show up for the exam on your first try.
Ranking System
  • Your JEE Advanced ranking is determined by the sum of your exam scores (out of 360). Thirty Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and five Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions make up each exam paper (Paper 1 and Paper 2).
  • Every MCQ is worth three marks, and every NAT is worth four. But in multiple-choice questions, wrong responses result in negative marking (usually -1 mark). You are given a rank among all JEE Advanced test takers based on your overall score.
  • Your eligibility for admission to different programs offered by IISERs and IITs is based on your rank.
