Introducing the finalists for the U19 World Cup 2024 Player of the Tournament award, the ICC revealed the shortlist on Friday. With the much-anticipated final showdown against Australia looming on Sunday, February 11, Indian players take center stage on the shortlist.
Among the eight contenders, three Indians stand out: Uday Saharan, Musheer Khan, and Saumy Pandey. Joining them are Australian captain Hugh Weibgen, Pakistan’s rising star Ubaid Shah, West Indies batter Jewel Andrew, and two South African talents, Kwena Maphaka and Steve Stolk.
Despite South Africa’s absence from the final, Maphaka’s performance left a lasting impression on the tournament. He leads the charts with an astonishing 21 wickets in just six innings, featuring three five-wicket hauls. Notably, Maphaka maintained an impressive economy rate of 3.81 and contributed three crucial wickets against India in the semifinal.
Among the favorites for the Player of the Tournament award are Indian captain Uday Saharan and all-rounder Musheer Khan. Saharan’s impactful 81-run knock in the semifinal, following his century against Nepal, earned him the Player of the Match award.
