Marvel’s beloved frenemies return in the latest trailer for the highly anticipated “Deadpool and Wolverine,” the third installment in the “Deadpool” film series and the first within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In this iteration, Deadpool and Wolverine engage in a brutal battle set to the iconic tune of Madonna’s “Like a Prayer.”
“I’m on the verge of losing everything I’ve ever cared about,” Deadpool confesses to Wolverine in the trailer, to which Wolverine bluntly replies, “Not my damn problem.”
“Did you say the same when your world fell apart?” Deadpool provocatively questions, leading Wolverine to strike Deadpool’s crotch with his claws before Deadpool retaliates by shooting him multiple times in the chest.
Cut to the two heroes sharing a casual meal: “Want to delve into your troubles now, or shall we save it for a dramatic third-act flashback?”
The third installment features Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and welcomes back Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, who was last seen meeting his demise in the 2017 film “Logan.” This movie marks the introduction of these iconic characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Deadpool and Wolverine” arrives nearly six years after “Deadpool 2,” a period that witnessed the conclusion of Fox’s “X-Men” film series and Disney’s full acquisition of 20th Century Fox, which previously held rights to X-Men and Fantastic Four (the latter also receiving its inaugural MCU feature film).
Excitement is high for Deadpool’s latest outing. The initial trailer for “Deadpool and Wolverine,” premiering during the Super Bowl, shattered the record for most-viewed movie trailer within 24 hours, amassing an impressive 365 million total views, surpassing the previous record held by “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
This raunchy, R-rated superhero film sees Deadpool entering the MCU after being abducted by the Time Variance Authority, last seen in “Loki,” and finding himself in the same realm as the Avengers.
Directed by Shawn Levy, the film also stars Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen.
“Deadpool and Wolverine” is produced by Kevin Feige, Reynolds, Levy, and Lauren Shuler Donner, with Louis D’Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey, Simon Kinberg, and Jonathon Komack Martin serving as executive producers. The screenplay is penned by Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells, and Levy.
